More than 50,000 projects sanctioned by PMJan Vikas Karyakram For Minorities; maximum in UP

Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) more than 50,000 major projects have been sanctioned, since its launch in 2014, including 1,572 school buildings, 177 residential schools, 22,965 additional class rooms, 14,637 smart classrooms along with teaching aid, 694 Hostels, and 41 degree colleges. According to the minority affairs ministry, 115 Industrial Training Institutes (ITI), 19 polytechnics, 27 working women hostels and 32 skill centres were sanctioned between 2014 and 2022 for which Rs 17,659.04 crore under the scheme with Central share of Rs 12,336.88 crore.

Responding to the questions about the scheme and fund sanctioned so far in Lok Sabha, minister of minority affairs Smriti Irani informed the House that 2,324 health projects, 605 Sadhbhav Mandaps (multi-purpose community halls) or Common Service Centres, 12 Hunar Hubs (Skill Centres), 6,774 toilet projects, and 91 sports facilities had been sanctioned under the centrally sponsored scheme (CSS).

Asaduddin Owaisi, Lok Sabha MP of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has sought details about the number of projects sanctioned and completed under PMJVK since 2014.

The scheme was launched with an objective to develop infrastructure projects in identified areas for socio economic development. The proposals are sent by the states and union territories (UTs) which are approved by an Empowered Committee after due consultation with the concerned central ministries.

The minister further stated that from the year 2014-15 to 2021-22, the Government had spent Rs 9378 19 crore.

As per the minister’s reply, a major chunk of funds was approved for Uttar Pradesh (Rs 2,690.70 crore), West Bengal (Rs 2,291.32 crore) and Assam (Rs 1,575.04).

“The state government of Uttar Pradesh has informed that a total of 28 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and 10 Polytechnics have been opened under the scheme in the State of Uttar Pradesh and about 57,000 students have benefitted from these centres,” Irani said in response to questions about projects approved under the scheme in UP asked by BJP MP Dharmendra Kashyap.
