Russian Ambassador Pays Tribute at Gandhi Jayanti Ceremony in New Delhi

On October 2, Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov took part in a solemn ceremony at the Raj Ghat memorial complex, marking the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Among the honoured guests were President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Members of Parliament, Union Ministers, government representatives, and members of the diplomatic corps accredited in New Delhi.

As part of the ceremony, Denis Alipov, together with the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Minister of Power Manohar Lal Khattar, inaugurated the exhibition “Tolstoy — Gandhi”, prepared by the Embassy of Russia and the Russian House in New Delhi.

In his remarks, the Ambassador underlined that the shared philosophical legacy of Leo Tolstoy and Mahatma Gandhi remains one of the enduring links between Russia and India. He noted that the exhibition vividly illustrates the influence of the Russian writer’s ideas on Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violent resistance.
