Success stories often emerge from perseverance, clarity of purpose, and the ability to stay resilient despite obstacles. The inspiring journey of Jasmine Sultana from Guwahati in the state of Assam is one such example. Her achievement in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) Combined Competitive Examination not only highlights the power of hard work but also demonstrates the value of spiritual balance and interfaith understanding. Jasmine Sultana secured the sixth position in the Assam Police Service (APS) 2025 through the APSC Combined Competitive Examination, one of the most prestigious and challenging examinations in the state. This accomplishment marks the culmination of years of dedication, discipline, and unwavering determination.
Born and raised in Guwahati, Jasmine’s academic journey began in an Assamese-medium educational environment. She completed her early education at Pan Bazar Adarsh Primary School and later studied at Tarini Choudhury Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School. She eventually pursued higher education at Cotton University, where she completed her Master’s degree in Political Science. Interestingly, Jasmine’s dream of joining the civil services began when she was in Class VIII. During a conversation with her friend Susmita outside a library, she learned about the power of civil servants to shape policies and influence governance. That moment sparked a deep aspiration within her to become part of the system and contribute to improving society. From that day onward, she decided that she would work towards clearing the civil services examination.

However, the journey was far from easy. Jasmine faced several challenges along the way. One of the major obstacles was the lack of study material in Assamese, the language in which she chose to take the examination. Instead of allowing this limitation to hinder her progress, she adopted a creative approach—studying from English-language books and translating the material into Assamese while preparing her notes. This method required extra effort and discipline but eventually helped her gain deeper clarity over the subjects. Her preparation began seriously during the COVID-19 pandemic, when lockdowns forced many aspirants to adjust their study methods. Jasmine’s journey lasted around four years of consistent preparation. She appeared for the examination several times and did not succeed initially. Yet she refused to give up. After multiple attempts, she finally succeeded in her sixth attempt, proving that persistence and patience are key elements of success.
Coming from a middle-class family, Jasmine also faced social pressures common in Indian society. Relatives often suggested marriage proposals, expecting her to settle down rather than continue her long preparation. But her family stood firmly behind her dream and provided the emotional support she needed to continue her pursuit. Their encouragement became one of her strongest sources of motivation. To support herself during preparation, Jasmine worked as a freelancer with Akashvani (All India Radio) and also associated with a coaching institute. Despite these responsibilities, she dedicated late nights to studying, balancing work and preparation with remarkable discipline.
One of the most unique aspects of Jasmine’s journey is the role spirituality played in her success. She found mental peace and emotional balance by reading both the Holy Quran and the Bhagavad Gita. According to her, these sacred texts helped her stay calm and focused during stressful preparation periods. She believes that religious books teach values such as tolerance, humanity, and discipline qualities that are essential for anyone aspiring to become a civil servant. Jasmine emphasizes that living in a secular and democratic country allows individuals to learn from multiple traditions and perspectives. In her view, both the Quran and the Gita guide people toward the path of righteousness and compassion. This philosophy helped her maintain mental well-being and a balanced outlook during the long and demanding preparation journey.
Today, Jasmine Sultana stands as a symbol of hope and inspiration for thousands of students, especially those from regional language backgrounds. She encourages Assamese-medium students not to develop an inferiority complex and to believe in their abilities. According to her, success does not depend on how many hours one studies, but rather on how effectively and sincerely one studies. Her story reflects the values of perseverance, inclusivity, and dedication. By overcoming linguistic challenges, societal pressures, and repeated failures, Jasmine has shown that determination can transform dreams into reality. Her achievement is not just a personal milestone but also a powerful message for young aspirants across India: with discipline, patience, and faith in oneself, no goal is unattainable.
