ALIGARH, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has finalised elaborate arrangements to celebrate the 79th Independence Day with traditional fervour, patriotic enthusiasm, and ceremonial grandeur. The preparations were reviewed at a consultative meeting chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Naima Khatoon, at the Conference Hall of the Administrative Block.
Calling upon the university fraternity to uphold the spirit of the national festival, Prof. Khatoon said the celebrations should reflect the values of unity, discipline, and patriotism that define the occasion. She urged all concerned to ensure the smooth and dignified conduct of the programme.
The main function will be held at Strachey Hall, where the National Flag will be hoisted at 9:11 a.m., followed by the National Anthem and a ceremonial Guard of Honour by NCC cadets. The Vice-Chancellor will address the gathering and later plant saplings at Sir Syed Hall (North and South) as part of the University’s commitment to environmental sustainability. She will also visit patients at the University Health Centre.
A special mushaira will be organised on the eve of Independence Day at the Polytechnic Auditorium, while prominent university buildings will be illuminated to mark the national occasion.
The meeting was also addressed by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Mohd. Mohsin Khan and Registrar Prof. Aasim Zafar.
Senior university officials and key functionaries attended the meeting, reaffirming AMU’s commitment to commemorating the nation’s Independence with dignity, unity, and national pride.
