Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has accused Ukrainian special services of carrying out the 2022 killing of Russian political analyst and journalist Daria Dugina.
Marking the fourth anniversary of Dugina’s death on August 20, Zakharova described her as a committed Russian patriot, philosopher, military correspondent and media host who was deeply devoted to her political beliefs and Orthodox faith.
Dugina was killed in a car bombing near Moscow on August 20, 2022. Russian authorities have previously blamed Ukrainian intelligence-linked operatives for the attack, while Ukraine has denied responsibility.
Zakharova said Dugina’s death caused widespread grief in Russia and argued that her legacy continues through books, initiatives and memorials dedicated to her.
She also criticised international organisations, particularly UNESCO and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), for what she described as a lack of a strong response to the killing. According to Zakharova, the silence of international institutions demonstrated what Moscow sees as a failure to take a principled position on attacks against Russian journalists and media professionals.
Her remarks come amid continued tensions between Moscow and Kyiv, with Russia repeatedly accusing Ukraine of targeting Russian media figures and public personalities.
