ALIGARH, September 15: The rich cultural traditions and distinctive Tehzeeb of Aligarh Muslim University came alive at a cultural and literary program, ‘Ahd-e-Rafta (Nostalgia): A Celebration of Memories, Ideas and Identity,’ organized by the Non-Resident Students’ Centre (NRSC) at the JNMC Auditorium.
Chief Guest Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Mohd. Mohsin Khan emphasized the role of student-led cultural and literary platforms in shaping the intellectual and social environment of the university. He said AMU’s identity had been enriched over the decades by its distinctive Tehzeeb, traditions of learning, mutual respect, and spirit of community. He encouraged students to participate actively in such programs and develop a deeper understanding of the values and traditions passed down through generations.
Guest of Honour Prof. Qudsia Tahseen, Directorate of School Education, said AMU’s Tehzeeb represents a unique blend of values, traditions, mutual respect and a shared sense of belonging. She emphasised that such programmes give students an opportunity to reconnect with the University’s cultural legacy and understand the values that have shaped its identity over the years.
Special guest Prof. Vibha Sharma, MIC, Public Relations, described AMU’s Tehzeeb as one of the institution’s most cherished legacies, reflected in its traditions of mutual respect, intellectual exchange, cultural diversity, and a strong sense of community. She said ‘Ahd-e-Rafta’ provided students an opportunity to reconnect with this heritage and appreciate the values underlying AMU’s distinctive identity.
Prof. M. Athar Ansari, Dean, Students’ Welfare; Prof. M. Mohibul Haque, Department of Political Science; and Dr. Ahmad M. Siddiqui, Department of Geography, also addressed the gathering. They recalled the distinctive cultural values, traditions, and practices historically associated with AMU and stressed the need to preserve and carry them forward among the present generation of students.
The programme was organised under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon and the guidance of NRSC Provost Prof. Surendra K. Mishra and NRSC Club President Dr M. A. Bilal Hussain. The NRSC Club organised the event with the support of the Centre’s wardens.
The Cultural Club conducted the programme under the secretaryship of Ahmad Siddiqui, Club Secretary, NRSC, with Ahmad Siddiqui and Cultural Secretary Ayman Hafeez Khan coordinating the event. Literary Secretary Ziauddin Ahmad, Hobby Secretary Abdullah Faizul Hasan and Hall Magazine Editor Mohammad Junaid Khan were part of the core organising team. NRSC Provost Office staff, particularly Mr Amber Zaidi and Mr Ankur Srivastav, assisted with the administrative arrangements.
A large number of students, research scholars and faculty members attended the programme. The guests and speakers were felicitated on the occasion, which concluded with a vote of thanks acknowledging the contributions of the NRSC Club cabinet, wardens and Provost Office staff.
