ALIGARH, July 15: The Department of Plastic Surgery, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JNMCH), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), observed World Plastic Surgery Day with the grand conclusion of a week-long series of academic and public engagement activities under the theme “Transforming Lives, Restoring Hope.”
Chief Guest Prof. Mohit Sharma, Head of Plastic Surgery at Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, and a pioneer in hand transplantation in India, delivered the keynote address. He shared insights into the technical and emotional complexities of reconstructive surgery, including the country’s first planned face transplant, inspiring students and faculty alike.

AMU Registrar Mr. Mohammad Imran (IPS) urged young surgeons to pursue advanced training and reaffirmed the university’s support for expanding plastic surgery services. Prof. Habib Raza, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, commended the department’s contributions to trauma and reconstructive care.
Prof. Imran Ahmad organising president remembered the department’s founding visionaries Prof. M.H. Khan, Prof. L.M. Bariar, Prof. A.H. Khan, and Prof. M. Yaseen, while Senior Resident Dr. Kanan Kohli reflected on her personal and professional journey within the department.
Earlier, Dr. M.F. Khurram, Chairperson of the Department, welcomed attendees and presented an overview of the department’s achievements. He informed that the weeklong celebration featured specialized OPDs, awareness drives, and academic discussions on burns, trauma, and congenital anomalies, with active participation from students and clinicians.

Dr. Sheikh Sarfraz Ali organising secretary delivered the vote of thanks. The event was smoothly conducted by Dr. Akanksha Chauhan and Dr. Fahad Uddin Ansari.
