Ambassador Nebiat Getachew, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed local and international media during a press briefing on current national and international issues.
He highlighted the completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and its significance for Ethiopian diplomacy, Ethiopia’s effective participation in the Second African Climate Summit, the Second Africa-CARICOM Summit, and the upcoming 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
Ambassador Nebiat underlined that the completion of the dam is a testament to Ethiopia’s ability to turn words into deeds. The project, he said, has reshaped the unjust narrative surrounding the Nile River and created new momentum across Africa.
On recent summits held in Addis Ababa, the spokesperson emphasized that the Second African Climate Summit not only showcased Ethiopia’s hosting capacity but also served as an agenda-setter, reflecting the country’s leadership in climate diplomacy. Regarding the Second Africa-CARICOM Summit, he noted Ethiopia’s focus on strengthening African-Caribbean relations, with an emphasis on historical ties and economic cooperation.
Ambassador Nebiat further stated that Ethiopia will actively participate in the 80th UN General Assembly, prioritizing issues that safeguard its national interests. The country will also use the platform to highlight achievements under the Green Legacy Initiative, efforts to ensure food security, key activities in renewable energy, and its upcoming agenda.
He added that Ethiopia is ready to hold bilateral discussions and consultations to further strengthen partnerships and cooperation alongside the General Assembly.
