ALIGARH, July 28: Dr. Aamir Riyaz, Chairperson, Department of Philosophy, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), delivered keynote addresses at two national seminars held on the occasion of Indian Philosophers’ Day 2025. The events were organised by Karim City College, Jamshedpur, and DAV PG College, Banaras Hindu University.
In both addresses, Dr. Riyaz reflected on the theme of Gandhi’s Secularism, challenging popular misconceptions and underscoring its continuing relevance.
He explained that Gandhi’s concept of secularism was distinct from the Western model, which separates religion from politics. For Gandhi, religion and politics were deeply intertwined, a view he famously captured by stating that “politics without religion is like a corpse.”
He concluded his address by quoting Allama Iqbal, who once remarked that future generations of Hindus might come to revere Gandhi as an incarnation of divinity.
