AMU Marks Sanskrit Day with Cultural and Academic Programmes

Aligarh, August 8 — The Department of Sanskrit at Aligarh Muslim University observed Sanskrit Day, under the chair of Prof. Sarika Varshney, by recognizing the historical glory of the language, its scientific aspects, and relevance in contemporary times.

Prof. Satya Prakash Sharma, as the Saraswat Guest, focused on the usefulness of Sanskrit in science, mathematics, Ayurveda, and computer science, while the Chief Guest, Prof. T. N. Satishan emphasized the vast treasure of knowledge and the spiritual vision of the language. Former chairpersons, Prof. Mohammad Sharif and Prof. Himanshu Shekhar Acharya on the other hand, related the historical continuity, across the globe, and scientific base of Sanskrit.

In addition to songs sung, speeches delivered and verses recited by the research scholars and post-graduate students to illustrate the living tradition of the language, some professors from the Faculty of Arts distinguished in their respective departments, like the Hindi, Persian and Philosophy Departments were present. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the research-scholar Saqib Ali and the Dean’s Office was conducted by Dr. Zafar Iftikhar.
