Kazakhstan and India Explore Formation of Inter-Parliamentary Group “Central Asia – India”

Strengthening political dialogue and parliamentary cooperation was the focus of a meeting between the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to India, H.E. Mr. Azamat Yeskarayev, and the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice of the Indian Parliament, H.E. Shri Brij Lal.

Ambassador Yeskarayev highlighted the significance of the strategic partnership established between Kazakhstan and India in 2009 and recalled that this year marks the 33rd anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Discussions centered on practical measures to implement previously reached agreements, with particular emphasis on the proposal to establish an Inter-Parliamentary Group “Central Asia – India” under the framework of the regional Dialogue.

The Kazakh Ambassador underlined the importance of enhancing inter-parliamentary engagement and reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s readiness to facilitate exchanges of parliamentary delegations, including through cooperation with the “Friendship Group.” He also expressed keen interest in learning from India’s legislative experience and parliamentary practices.

Chairman Shri Brij Lal, in turn, stressed that stronger inter-parliamentary relations are essential for deepening Kazakhstan–India cooperation. He welcomed the initiative to establish the Inter-Parliamentary Group and expressed his commitment to advancing joint regional projects.

Concluding the talks, Ambassador Yeskarayev invited Shri Brij Lal, Member of the Rajya Sabha, to visit Astana for further discussions on inter-parliamentary cooperation and the expansion of bilateral collaboration.
