Aligarh, October 1: Various halls of residents at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) held their highly anticipated annual Hall functions, celebrating the academic, cultural, and sporting milestones achieved by the students. Functions at Viqarul Mulk Hall, Sir Ziauddin Hall, and Sir Syed Hall (South) brought together residents, wardens, and alumni in a spirited atmosphere of camaraderie and collective pride.
Al-Viqar 2025, the annual function of Viqarul Mulk Hall was graced by AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Naima Khatoon, as the Chief Guest, alongside a distinguished panel of speakers, including Prof. M. Mohsin Khan, Pro-Vice Chancellor; Dr. Zubair Shadab Khan, Director, CPDUT, Urdu Academy; and Professors Mohammad Shameem, JNMC, and Nabiullah Khan, Department of Applied Mathematics. In their inspiring addresses, both the Vice Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor urged students to continue their pursuit of holistic development through a balanced commitment to academics, sports, and cultural activities.
The Provost Prof. Naushad Ali P.M., welcomed the guests and acknowledged the invaluable support of the University administration in ensuring the smooth functioning of the Hall. This was followed by the Annual Hall Report presented by Senior Hall Mr. Manzoor Ahmad, which highlighted the hall’s outstanding achievements over the past year. The evening concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Hujjat Raza, Senior Food, who expressed gratitude to everyone involved in organizing the event.
In a similarly impressive gathering, Sir Ziauddin Hall hosted its annual function, with Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed Ansari, Provost of the Hall, delivering the welcome address.
In her powerful speech, Vice Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon praised the discipline, achievements, and active participation of the hall residents, motivating them to uphold the legacy of AMU through excellence in academics, sports, and extracurricular activities.
Other notable dignitaries included Prof. Rafiuddin, Dean of Students’ Welfare; Prof. Mohammad Asif Khan, Prof. Nafees Ahmed Ansari, and Prof. Irfan Ahmad, who attended as Guests of Honour. Their speeches underscored the importance of balancing academics with personality development and encouraged students to actively contribute to the university community.
The function also featured the distribution of awards and certificates to students for their achievements in academics, sports, and various hall activities. The distinguished guests applauded the efforts of Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed Ansari and the hall administration for creating a nurturing environment that fosters the holistic growth of students.
The festivities continued at Sir Syed Hall (South), where Vice Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon, served as the chief patron.
The ceremony was graced by Prof. Mohammad Azher, Chairman, Department of West Asian Studies, as the Chief Guest, and Prof. Aftab Alam, Dean, Faculty of International Studies, AMU, as the Special Guest. The distinguished Guests of Honour included Prof. S. M. Safdar Ashraf, Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine, and Mr Nadeem Ahmad Farooqui, Chairman, Shamshabad, District Farrukhabad, and Ex-Member, AMU Court. The program was presided over by Dr Abdur Rauf, Provost of Sir Syed Hall (South).
Dr Abdur Rauf, extended a warm welcome to all the dignitaries and presented them with mementoes as a gesture of respect.
Prof. Mohammad Azher, in his speech, urged students to embrace the educational philosophy of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and use their knowledge as a tool for societal empowerment. His address was followed by the presentation of mementoes to achievers in areas such as the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), National Eligibility Test (NET), sports, and academic excellence.
Mr. Nadeem Ahmad Farooqui encouraged students to balance their pursuit of knowledge with service to society. Prof. S. M. Safdar Ashraf highlighted the values of dedication and perseverance in higher education, while Prof. Aftab Alam motivated students to actively engage in international academic discourse.
Presenting the Hall report, Senior Hall Mr. Mohammad Ubaid elaborated on the wide spectrum of activities conducted in the hall throughout the academic year. He provided a detailed account of students’ academic achievements, competitive examination successes, sports victories, and literary engagements.
Alongside him, the Senior Food, Shahanshah Khan, played an equally vital role in organising the function, reflecting the tradition of teamwork and responsibility.
Each event underscored the significance of promoting a nurturing environment for the academic and personal growth of students. The functions served as a powerful reminder of the holistic development promoted at AMU, where academic success is complemented by leadership, cultural engagement, and a strong sense of social responsibility.
