Maslenitsa Celebrated with Traditional Fervour in Trivandrum

Trivandrum, The traditional Russian festival of Maslenitsa was celebrated with enthusiasm in Trivandrum on February 20. The event was organized by the Office of the Honorary Consul of Russia in the city in cooperation with the International Russophile Movement.

More than 100 guests attended the festivities, including members of the Russian community and specialists working at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant. The celebration highlighted cultural ties and offered participants an opportunity to experience Russian traditions firsthand.

As part of the programme, guests took part in a variety of entertaining activities and sampled traditional Russian cuisine. Among the highlights were blini (Russian pancakes), a signature dish of Maslenitsa that symbolizes the sun and the arrival of spring.

The event concluded with the ceremonial burning of the Maslenitsa effigy, a symbolic ritual marking the end of winter and welcoming the long-awaited spring season.
