Guest Lecture on Cardiovascular Diseases Organized by AMU’s Department of Moalijat

ALIGARH, November 10: The Department of Moalijat, Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University, organized a guest lecture, delivered by Professor Mohd. Azam Haseen, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, on the topic “Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Diseases in Today’s World.”

In his lecture, Professor Haseen discussed the rising global prevalence of cardiovascular diseases, observing that one in five people are affected, with higher susceptibility among elderly and diabetic populations. He noted with concern the increasing incidence among younger age groups, attributing it to lifestyle changes and multiple behavioral factors.

Explaining the two categories of risk factors, modifiable and non-modifiable, he emphasized the importance of managing modifiable factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, stress, sleep deficiency, and lack of physical exercise. He underlined that awareness and community education about these factors can play a vital role in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

Professor Haseen also elaborated that cardiovascular ailments are not confined to the heart but involve other major blood vessels, including those supplying the brain and kidneys. Highlighting the collaborative efforts of his department, he mentioned its engagement with national and international governmental organizations and NGOs, as well as support from the Government of India in advancing cardiovascular healthcare initiatives.

Professor Mohd. Anwar Siddiqui (Department of Ilaj Bit Tadbeer), Professor Zamir Ahmad and Dr. Mohammad Mohsin (Department of Amraze Jild wa Zohrawiya), Dr. Nazish Siddiqui (Department of Ilmul Advia), along with faculty members of the Department of Moalijat, attended the lecture. Postgraduate students from various departments of the Faculty of Unani Medicine were also present.

Professor Badrudduja Khan, Chairman, Department of Moalijat, introduced the speaker and presented a memento and certificate of appreciation to him.
