AMU Museology Faculty Members Mark Distinction at Museum Association of India International Conference 2025

ALIGARH, November 12: Faculty members from the Department of Museology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), made notable contributions at the International Conference 2025 organized by the Museum Association of India, held at the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS), Shamla Hills, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

The conference, themed “Community and Sectarian Identities; Their Representations in Museums: The Global Scenario,” brought together museum professionals and scholars from India and abroad to deliberate on contemporary issues related to museum practices and cultural representation.

Dr. Danish Mahmood, presented a paper titled “Sanjhi Art: The Community Cultural Expression of Brij Region: Its Preservation as Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) and Representation in Museums.” Dr. Ameeza Zarrin, faculty member, delivered a presentation on “Azadari: Documenting Mourning Rituals as Living Heritage through Community Art, Craft, and Oral Tradition in India.”

In addition, Dr. Samura Qadir, former research scholar, and Masarrat Khan, Senior Technical Assistant, co-presented a paper on “Cultural Identities of Mathura Depicted in Government Museum Mathura and Their Educational Role.”

In a significant achievement, Dr. Danish Mahmood was elected as an Executive Member of the Museum Association of India for the second consecutive term, in recognition of his continued contributions to the field of museology in India.
