Russia’s Lenfilm Studio Marks Anniversary on March 5

Moscow, March 5: One of Russia’s oldest and most renowned film studios, Lenfilm Film Studio, celebrates its anniversary on March 5, marking more than a century of contribution to cinema.

The studio’s history dates back to 1914, when the Military Cinema Department of the Skobelev Committee was established to produce films and newsreels. Four years later, following nationalization after the revolution, the studio became part of the Petrograd Committee of the People’s Commissariat for Education of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic.

Over the following decades, the organization underwent several structural transformations. About twenty years after its founding, the historic film company adopted its present name, Lenfilm.

The studio’s productions have been showcased at major international film festivals and have earned numerous prestigious awards, along with national film honors in Russia.

Today, Lenfilm remains a significant institution in the Russian film industry, known for its legacy of influential and celebrated motion pictures.
