P. Kumaran Appointed as India’s Next High Commissioner to the UK

India has appointed senior diplomat Periasamy Kumaran as its next High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, marking a key diplomatic reshuffle. A 1992-batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Kumaran will succeed Vikram Doraiswami, who has been named India’s next ambassador to China.

Currently serving as Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Kumaran brings with him extensive diplomatic experience across multiple regions. Over the course of his career, he has held several significant assignments, including postings in Cairo, Tripoli, Brussels, Islamabad, Washington, and Colombo.

He has also served as India’s Ambassador to Qatar and later as High Commissioner to Singapore, strengthening India’s strategic and economic ties in both regions.

Kumaran officially assumes his new role in London at a time when India-UK relations continue to deepen across trade, security, and diaspora engagement. His appointment is seen as part of a broader diplomatic reshuffle aimed at reinforcing India’s presence in key global capitals.

With decades of experience and a strong track record in international diplomacy, Kumaran is expected to play a crucial role in advancing India’s strategic interests in the United Kingdom.
