ALIGARH, The Departments of Pharmacology and Physiology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), inaugurated UP UK-APPICON 2026 with the inaugural session and pre-conference workshops, centred on the theme “Integrating Physiology and Pharmacology.”
The conference, marking 37 years of Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) reporting (1989–2026), aims to promote interdisciplinary approaches in medical research and clinical practice.
Addressing the inaugural session as Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon highlighted the importance of integrating physiology and pharmacology to enhance research quality and improve clinical outcomes.
Guest of Honour Prof. Mohd Khalid, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, emphasised the need to bridge physiology with pharmacology to ensure safer and more effective patient care, while Prof. Anjum Parvez, Principal and CMS, JNMC, noted that such integration forms the backbone of evidence-based therapeutics.
Patron of APPI UP-UK, Prof. Sunita Tiwari, underlined the role of interdisciplinary learning in strengthening medical education, and Dr. Sangeeta Gupta, Joint Secretary, highlighted the conference as a platform for innovation and collaboration. Organising Chairman Prof. Mohd Aslam and Organising Secretary Prof. Syed Ziaur Rahman also stressed the significance of integrated scientific approaches in addressing emerging healthcare challenges.
On the occasion, Lifetime Achievement Awards were conferred upon Prof. Usha Singhal, former Dean, Faculty of Medicine; Prof. D.K. Agarwal, former Chairman, Department of Physiology; Prof. Rahat Ali Khan, former Chairman, Department of Pharmacology; and Prof. M. Mobarak Hussain, former Chairman, Department of Physiology.
Earlier in the day, four pre-conference workshops were conducted, including sessions on recent advances in pharmacovigilance and materiovigilance, as well as brain stem auditory evoked response and nerve conduction velocity.
