Severe flooding in Assam has caused widespread devastation across the state. According to media reports, more than 80 people have lost their lives, while millions have been affected and displaced by the disaster. As flood-related photos and videos continue to circulate online, one particular clip has gone viral claiming to show a man delivering the Adhan from a partially submerged, damaged mosque in Assam.
The video appears to have been captured by a drone and shows a mosque standing amid floodwaters, with a man giving the call to prayer from its structure.
What is the viral claim?
The video was shared on Facebook by a user named Bharat Manch with the caption:
“The call to prayer is ringing out from a flood-affected mosque in Assam… only the name of Allah shall remain.“
The post has received over 200,000 likes and has been shared more than 12,000 times.
The same video was also posted on X by Azam Khan 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘆, who wrote:
“Alhamdulillah! We are Muslims; the call to prayer (Azan) is echoing from a damaged mosque amidst the floods.”
The clip has also been widely shared on Instagram and other social media platforms.
Times Headline Investigation
To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, Times Headline conducted a detailed investigation. The findings show that the video is not a real recording from the Assam floods. Instead, it was created using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
As part of the verification process, key frames from the video were extracted and subjected to a reverse image search using Google Lens. The search led to the same video uploaded on the YouTube channel Talib sheikh on July 20, 2026. The upload contained only the word “Allah” in the description, without mentioning any location or real-life incident.
A closer examination of the video also revealed the Google Gemini logo at the bottom of the frame. This watermark commonly appears on videos generated using Google’s Gemini AI tools. In addition, the video’s description clearly states that AI was used and that the visuals and audio were either generated or modified with artificial intelligence.
AI Detection Results
To further verify the video’s authenticity, Times Headline analyzed it using two AI detection tools: Hive Moderation and Deepfake-O-Meter.
Both tools produced nearly identical results. Hive Moderation estimated a 99.9% probability that the video was AI-generated, while Deepfake-O-Meter also concluded that there was a 99.9% likelihood that the video had been created using artificial intelligence.
What Did the AI Expert Find?
AI expert Kumar Aniket also examined the viral clip and identified several indicators suggesting it was AI-generated.
According to his analysis:
- The direction of the man giving the Adhan changes from frame to frame, whereas in reality the person remains facing a fixed direction while delivering the call to prayer.
- The mosque is shown standing in the middle of a river, even though the riverbanks are clearly visible and there are no surrounding buildings or signs of habitation.
- The flow of water, lighting, and reflections appear physically inconsistent in several parts of the video.
- The footage also contains temporal inconsistencies, unstable textures, and visible AI rendering artifacts, all of which are common characteristics of AI-generated content.
Conclusion
The Times Headline fact check found that the viral video does not show a real mosque in flood-hit Assam. Technical analysis, AI detection tools, and expert examination all indicate that the footage was generated using Artificial Intelligence.
Therefore, the claim that the video depicts a man giving the Adhan from a flood-damaged mosque in Assam is false and misleading.
