The Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management (DTHM), Jamia Millia Islamia, successfully concluded its month-long celebrations organised to commemorate World Tourism Day 2026, culminating on 25 September 2026 with a Regional Cuisine and Tourism Competition. The celebrations featured interactive sessions, practical workshops, and competitions aimed at enhancing hospitality skills, cultural awareness, and appreciation of Indian Knowledge Systems among the youth.
The programme commenced with industry interaction sessions featuring The Leela Ambience Convention Hotel, Delhi; The Surya; Encalm Hospitality; and Dewan Holidays, providing students with valuable insights into contemporary industry practices, trends, and career opportunities in the travel and hospitality sectors. A range of creative and skill-based activities was also organised, including Flower Arrangement, Towel Origami, Tourism Quiz, Documentary Screening and Photography, Rangoli Making, Brochure Making, and Nukkad Natak (Street Play). A First Aid session was also conducted to sensitise students to basic emergency response and safety practices.
The concluding Regional Cuisine and Tourism Competition was graced by the Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia, Prof. Mazhar Asif, and the Registrar, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi. The event was also attended by Prof. Tanuja, Dean (Academics); Prof. Mohammad Sharif, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology; and Prof. Pankaj Kumar Gupta, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies. Prof. Tanuja and Prof. Mohammad Sharif served as judges for the competition.
The dignitaries visited the student exhibits and presentations showcasing India’s diverse cultural traditions and tourism potential. They also tasted a wide array of authentic regional cuisines prepared by DTHM students and appreciated their culinary skills, presentation, creativity, and efforts to showcase India’s rich culinary heritage. The event provided an experiential platform for students to explore India’s regional cuisines, traditions, cultural practices, and tourism resources, with a special emphasis on promoting Indian Knowledge Systems among the youth.
The celebrations were organised under the leadership of Prof. Sarah Hussain, Head, DTHM, with the support of Dr. Nusrat Yasmeen, Student Advisor, DTHM, and Dr. Vijay Kumar, Placement In-charge, DTHM, along with the faculty members and student coordinators. The Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar congratulated the entire team for organising an engaging and impactful series of programmes that brought together hospitality and tourism education, experiential learning, Indian cultural heritage, and youth engagement.
