we view this financial support as a significant step to counter Israel’s efforts to undermine and eliminate UNRWA’s operation in the Palestinian territories

Palestine has expressed its gratitude to India for its contributions to United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). It has viewed this gesture as “a significant victory in the face of Israel’s attempts to undermine and ban the agency’s operations” in Gaza.

“We express our sincere gratitude to the government of India for releasing the second tranche of $2.5 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), fulfilling its annual commitment of USD 5 million for the 2024-2025 period,” the embassy of Palestine in Delhi said in a statement.

It said that this contribution underscores India’s pledge to continue providing humanitarian assistance, including medicines, to UNRWA, while supporting the agency in fulfilling its responsibilities towards the welfare of Palestinian refugees.

Dr Abed Elrazeg Abu Jazer, Chargé d’Affaires, said, “This Indian contribution is a clear affirmation of India’s ongoing support for UNRWA and its mandated mission since 1949… We view this financial support as a significant step to counter Israel’s efforts to undermine and eliminate UNRWA’s operations in the Palestinian territories.

“The embassy said that the Palestinian people, who share deep historical ties with India, highly appreciate this contribution and look forward to continued Indian support, both politically and materially, in their pursuit of freedom, independence, and the establishment of their own State.
