Today, a delegation of the representatives of political parties, trade unions, and social movements met the Iran Consul General in Mumbai and extended their solidarity with the Iranian nation. They unequivocally condemned the US & Israeli aggression on Iran and the ongoing Genocide in Gaza and across Palestine.
The delegation included Arif Naseem Khan (Working President, Maharashtra, CWC, Congress Party Leader), Com. Shyam Gohil (Gen. Sec. Maharashtra, CPI-ML Liberation), Feroze Mithiborwala (Gen. Sec. India Palestine Solidarity Forum), Sarfaraz Arzu (Editor, Hindustan Daily), Com. Adv. Ravi Joshi (Trade Union Centre of India, TUCI), Khatoon Sheikh (Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan, BMMA), Ghazala Azad (Hum Bharat Ke Log, HBKL), Munawar Azad (HBKL), Maimoona (BMMA) & Dr Munera Qureishi (HBKL).
The Honble’ Consul General, his Excellency Mohseni Fard said that the US attack on Iranian nuclear facilities was illegal by international law, and today, the world has been reduced to the law of the jungle. Both the US & Israel and certain other Western nations have made a mockery of the UN & the rule of law. He went on to say that the attack on the nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan had caused limited damage, and in any case, the scientists, and all other necessary equipments had been already moved out from the plants.
He also said that the atmosphere within Iran is one of unprecedented unity & the spirit & courage of the people are sky high. The younger generation across Iran have taken to the streets & providing safety, security & assistance for those in need in neighborhoods across the country. Shopkeepers are giving away goods for free for those in need. They, as a nation are determined & have decided to take on the US and Israel and defeat them. He also said that Iran is receiving tremendous support from across the world.
He also appreciated the telephone conversation between PM Modi & President Pezheskian of Iran, as well as the statements of support by various leading Indian political leaders & parties, which was a positive development, he said.
His Excellency Mohseni Fard also referred to the Indians, especially the students & clerics who were stranded their during the war, and nearly 1500 of them are on their way back home to India safe. On this matter, there has been close coordination with the Indian government.
On the issue of the Strait of Hormuz, through which flows 20% of the world’s energy, he said that the Iranian parliament has passed a resolution to close it down in retaliation to the Western aggression, but a decision was yet pending. On the issue of Iran’s right to its right for a peaceful nuclear programme & the right to enrich Uranium for peaceful purposes, he said that it wasn’t negotiable as it was their right as both signatories to the NPT, and as a sovereign right. On the issue of the US-Israeli attempt at the so-called regime change, he said that Iran has never been more united & the Iranian government was stable & strong and was elected by the people. Thus, all plans of regime change are nothing much ado the west has little understanding of Iran as an ancient civilisation & a highly educated qualified modern nation.
The delegation referred to the immense global support for Iran, even as Israel & the US grow more and more isolated due to their belligerent illegal ways. President Trump is facing significant opposition from within his country for breaking his election promise and leading the US into another war for Israel. Here the power of the Israeli lobby that holds sway over the White House & key centres of American political power is evident. Trump’s illegal attack on Iran is an act of war, without the sanction of the US Congress & Senate, for which he should be impeached.
This is but another war built on lies as was the case in Iraq, Libya, Syria & Yemen, even as Trump’s complicity in the Netanyahu-led Israeli genocide & ethnic cleansing of Gaza carries on. The response from Russia & China and many other nations who have come out in support, especially the SCO & BRICS nations are important they said, as we head towards a multipolar world and the certain decline of US, Israel, UK & Western hegemony.
The delegation spoke about the age old ties between the two great nations & the fact that leading political parties had condemned the Israel-US aggression and extended solidarity with Iran was indeed a positive sign for the relationship of the two nations.
