Aligarh, 5th August: Aligarh Alumni Association, Washington, DC (AAADC) has granted 387 merit-cum-need based scholarships to Aligarh Muslim University students for the academic session 2024-2025 and each of them has been given Rs. 15,000.
This long-term program, initiated in the early 1980s, operates on an endowed scheme—on selection of a student, the scholarship is maintained throughout the duration of study. The scholarships are spread across a wide range of disciplines such as Sciences, Medicine, Humanities, Social Sciences, Law, Commerce, Engineering, and Architecture at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
More than 2,500 applications have been received this year. 850 students were shortlisted based on a merit-cum-means consideration. The final selection of more than 300 new awardees was made by the AMU Alumni Affairs Committee, chaired by Prof. Ekram Khan, along with sanctioning around 145 renewing recipients after strict checks.
The shortlisting process was done by a panel of faculty members and AAADC Scholarship Committee members to ensure transparency and merit-based allocation. The effort has been possible due to the monetary assistance from the benevolent contributions of AMU alumni and well-wishers in North America and globally.
Prof. Sartaj Tabassum, AMU Alumni Affairs Committee Chairman, conveyed warm thanks to AAADC for its steadfast support in empowering students through education. He appreciatively acknowledged the continuous efforts of the Association in facilitating meritorious students to achieve their academic aspiration with dignity.
Mr. Afzal Usmani, AAADC President and AAADC Scholarship Committee Chairman, recognized the support of AMU administration and thanked the interview panelists and Prof. Ekram Khan for their leadership and commitment in carrying out the process.
This scholarship initiative is one of the extension activities under AAADC’s overall mission to promote educational access, academic excellence, and an active global AMU alumni base. Mr. Usmani reaffirmed AAADC’s dedication to paying back to their alma mater and contributing to nation-building through learning.
