New Delhi, September 2025 – H. E. Mr. Karlito Nunes, Ambassador of Timor-Leste to India, received a courtesy visit from Mr. Joly Joseph and Dr. Fr. Roby Kannanchira CMI at the Embassy of Timor-Leste in New Delhi.
The discussion highlighted the significant potential of Timor-Leste to become a major hub for seafood exports to the global market, driven by the increasing demand for seafood as a staple food. The meeting proposed developing systems for seafood preservation and processed food production, including canned and ready-to-eat seafood products.
H. E. Mr. Karlito Nunes suggested the establishment of a dedicated company focused exclusively on the seafood sector. He also recommended initiatives to promote sea tourism and traditional fishing experiences, which could further enhance Timor-Leste’s marine export industry.
In the realm of cultural and educational exchange, Dr. Fr. Roby Kannanchira proposed organizing cultural programs in both Timor-Leste and India. He also suggested launching a bilateral Catholic student exchange program to promote Timor-Leste’s culture and heritage.
Key outcomes of the meeting included a proposal for a future visit to Timor-Leste to explore opportunities in marine products and marine tourism, as well as the consideration of cultural and student exchange programs aimed at strengthening cultural ties and promoting religious tourism.
