Amid the ongoing devastation and humanitarian crisis in Gaza, a heartbreaking report has emerged. According to the Gaza Missing Persons Committee, more than 10,000 people are still trapped under the rubble and have not yet been rescued. Due to the continued Israeli blockade, relief and rescue operations have come to a complete halt.
The National Committee for Missing Persons stated on Thursday that thousands of people are trapped beneath buildings that completely collapsed during the war. In addition, the committee has appealed to the international community to immediately send specialized rescue teams and necessary equipment to Gaza to help locate these missing individuals. In its statement, the committee said, “This is a humanitarian mission that cannot be delayed any further.”
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, relief and civil defense teams are unable to reach many areas where a large number of people are still trapped under the rubble.
Meanwhile, Gaza’s emergency operations team has warned the United Nations that the risk of flooding has increased due to the extensive destruction of infrastructure.
UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said in October that 83% of buildings in Gaza City alone have been destroyed, and around 81,000 homes have been damaged.
Local organizations say that due to the Israeli blockade, relief equipment and international personnel are not being allowed to enter Gaza, which is making the situation increasingly dire.
As the war drags on, the situation is becoming horrific — the number of missing people continues to rise, and thousands of families are still waiting for any news about their loved ones.
