Sweden Hosts “Humanitarian Innovations for Resilience” Event, Announces New Partnership to Strengthen Disaster Shelters in India

The Embassy of Sweden in New Delhi this week hosted “Humanitarian Innovations for Resilience,” highlighting coordinated efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness and community resilience.

During the event, Better Shelter—a Swedish nonprofit renowned for its award-winning modular shelters used in humanitarian crises worldwide—signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SEEDS India to scale up locally adapted and innovative shelter solutions across the country. Better Shelter has deployed approximately 100,000 shelters globally, providing safe and dignified housing to displaced communities.

The partnership will combine Swedish modular design with SEEDS India’s community-led approach to deliver shelter solutions that are functional, locally grounded, and restore dignity for disaster-affected households. Attendees were able to explore a full-scale shelter, demonstrating how Swedish innovation can merge with Indian materials and design to protect lives and livelihoods.

As climate-related risks escalate, Sweden reaffirmed its commitment to supporting resilience and humanitarian innovation through its global networks and long-standing aid engagement. The Embassy welcomed the collaboration between Better Shelter and SEEDS India as a meaningful step toward advancing preparedness and saving lives.
