The Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC) at the Embassy of India in Bangkok commemorated “Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh” on 27 November 2025 to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.

Ms. Paulomi Tripathi, Deputy Chief of Mission, inaugurated the event with opening remarks highlighting the life, legacy, and immense contributions of Bhagwan Birsa Munda to India’s tribal communities and freedom movement.

An insightful academic lecture was delivered by Dr. Petchada Choon-on from the Department of History, Faculty of Arts, Silpakorn University, who provided a detailed perspective on the historical significance of Birsa Munda.

The cultural segment of the programme featured vibrant tribal performances presented by the Northeast Society, Bangkok, including Mizo Dance, Tangkhul Dance, and Khamba Thoibi Dance, showcasing the rich heritage of India’s Northeast.

The event witnessed participation from distinguished guests, members of the Indian diaspora in Thailand, and enthusiastic attendees who appreciated the cultural showcase. Ms. Jagpreet Kaur, Second Secretary (E&C and PIC) at the Embassy of India in Bangkok, was also present at the occasion.
