The India Islamic Cultural Centre Hosts the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

New Delhi – The India Islamic Cultural Centre (IICC), in cooperation with the Embassy of the State of Palestine to the Republic of India, hosted an official ceremony marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. The event brought together senior officials, diplomats, United Nations representatives, as well as prominent academic, cultural, and media figures.

The programme opened with the National Anthem of India followed by the National Anthem of Palestine. His Excellency Abdullah Mohamad Abu Shawesh, Ambassador of the State of Palestine, delivered a statement highlighting the global significance of this day and reaffirming the centrality of the Palestinian cause within the United Nations system since its establishment. He underscored the continuing historical injustice faced by the Palestinian people and the need for a more just and principled international position.

Official statements were then delivered by:

  • HE Acquino Vimal, Joint Secretary for UN–Economic & Social Affairs at the Ministry of External Affairs of India,
  • HE Angela Lusigi, Acting UN Resident Coordinator,
  • HE Salman Khurshid, President of the India Islamic Cultural Centre.

His Excellency Mohammad Malki, Dean of the Arab Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco, also delivered a heartfelt and solidarity-filled address. He reaffirmed the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to freedom and independence, drawing inspiration from the Royal Message of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which emphasizes the centrality of the Palestinian cause and the importance of unwavering support for the Palestinian struggle to achieve its inalienable rights. His address reflected Morocco’s firm and longstanding commitment to supporting Palestine in all regional and international fora.

The programme included the screening of a short documentary film portraying aspects of the daily suffering and resilience of the Palestinian people, along with a photo exhibition illustrating life under occupation. Guests were also invited to enjoy refreshments and view the exhibition.

At the conclusion of the event, the Embassy expressed its gratitude to the India Islamic Cultural Centre for its cooperation and generous hosting, and extended its appreciation to all attendees for their sincere solidarity with the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights.
