The Embassy of Iceland, in collaboration with Business Iceland, hosted a webinar last week titled “Unlocking India’s Seafood Market under the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA)”, highlighting opportunities for strengthening seafood trade between Iceland and India.

The session opened with introductory remarks by Björgvin Thor Björgvinsson of Business Iceland, followed by an expert presentation from Sveinn Einarsson of Iceland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs, who outlined the implications of TEPA for Icelandic seafood exports.

Providing an Indian market perspective, Amit Lohani, Founder Director of the Forum of Indian Food Importers, discussed trends shaping India’s evolving seafood import landscape. Rakesh Banga of Banyan Fine Foods shared practical insights drawn from his experience as an importer operating in the Indian market.

The webinar concluded with closing remarks by Iceland’s Ambassador to India, Benedikt Höskuldsson, who highlighted the strong potential for Icelandic seafood—globally recognised for sustainable fisheries management, full traceability and consistent quality—to cater to India’s growing demand for responsibly sourced, premium products.

The discussion reaffirmed seafood trade as a key pillar of the expanding Iceland–India economic partnership under TEPA.
