AMU Professor Participates in International Conference on AI and Pharmacovigilance

ALIGARH, April 15: Prof. Syed Ziaur Rahman, Chairman, Department of Pharmacology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), was invited as a panellist at an international conference on “Clinical Trials and Pharmacovigilance in the AI Era: Global Regulatory Developments and Innovations,” held at Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi.

During the panel discussion, Prof. Rahman shared his academic perspective on integrating AI into pharmacovigilance education and practice. He emphasised the importance of strengthening foundational knowledge among students, including core areas such as adverse drug reaction reporting, signal detection and causality assessment, before introducing AI-based tools.

Highlighting the gap between academic teaching and real-world practices, he observed that while curricula often remain theory-oriented, industry increasingly depends on advanced technologies such as machine learning and automated data systems.

Prof. Rahman also emphasized that AI should complement, not replace, human expertise and critical scientific reasoning.
