New Delhi, May 9: The annual “Immortal Regiment” campaign was held in New Delhi on the occasion of Victory Day, bringing together several hundred participants to honor those who fought in World War II.
The event was attended by Russian compatriots, Indian citizens, employees of Russian organizations in India, and their family members, who marched through the center of the capital carrying portraits of relatives who served on the фронts of World War II.

Welcoming remarks were delivered by Roman Babushkin, Deputy Chief of Mission and Minister Counsellor at the Russian Embassy in India, and Elena Remizova, Head of the Rossotrudnichestvo Representative Office in India. Relatives of Indian citizens who participated in World War II as part of the anti-Hitler coalition also addressed the gathering.
As part of the commemorative events, participants unfurled an 81-meter-long St. George’s Ribbon. A flower-laying ceremony was held at the memorial plaque dedicated to Indian servicemen who were awarded Soviet and Russian orders. Organizers also ceremonially presented a flame from the Eternal Fire at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow’s Alexander Garden.

A photo exhibition highlighting the contribution of Indians to the Allied victory in World War II was inaugurated during the event. The exhibition was organized jointly by the Russian Embassy in India, the Russian House in New Delhi, the National Archives of India, and the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library in New Delhi.
The celebrations concluded with a Russian-Indian cultural concert featuring wartime poetry, songs, dances, and theatrical performances by students of the Alexander Kadakin School of the Embassy, Indian students studying the Russian language, and representatives of Indian public organizations.
