AMU Marks World Blood Donor Day with Blood Donation Camp and Pledge Ceremony

ALIGARH, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) observed World Blood Donor Day 2026 through a series of activities aimed at promoting voluntary blood donation and raising awareness about the importance of safe and adequate blood supplies.

A Blood Donation Camp was organized at AK Tibbiya College Hospital by the All India Unani Tibbi Conference (AIUTC), Students’ Wing, Uttar Pradesh Chapter, in collaboration with the Blood Bank of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital. The initiative was conducted in line with the spirit and directives of the Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education, and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from teaching, non-teaching and technical staff, as well as a large number of students who voluntarily donated blood.

The programme was inaugurated by the Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. M. Mohsin Khan, who lauded the spirit of voluntary blood donation among students and faculty members. Addressing the gathering, he emphasized the importance of regular blood donation in saving lives and encouraged young scholars to actively participate in community-oriented initiatives.

The camp was organized under the leadership of Prof. Mohammad Mohsin and Dr. Maaz Ahmad, who served as key coordinators of the event. Principal, A.K. Tibbiya College, Prof. BadruddujaKhanplayed an important role in facilitating the smooth conduct of the programme. The Blood Bank team, led by Dr. Suhail Ahmad, along with junior residents from the Blood Bank and Pathology Department, extended support and ensured efficient management of the donation process.

Several faculty members also came forward to donate blood, setting an inspiring example for students and staff. Among the donors were Prof. M. Anwar, Prof. Ruby Anjum, Dr. Deewan, Dr. Anas, Dr. Shamshad and Dr. Shoaib.

As part of the World Blood Donor Day observance, the Department of Community Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, also organized a pledge ceremony in its Seminar Room. The programme was attended by faculty members, postgraduate residents, and teaching and non-teaching staff.

The pledge, based on the theme One Drop of Humanity, Give Blood, Save Liveswas administered by Dr. Syed Sohaib Hashmi, Senior Resident, who urged participants to support regular voluntary blood donation and motivate others to do the same.

Addressing the gathering, Chairperson Prof. Uzma Eram highlighted the crucial role of voluntary blood donors in saving lives and strengthening healthcare services. She described blood donation as a noble social responsibility and called upon healthcare professionals to serve as ambassadors of awareness within the community.

Among those present were Dr. Sameena Ahmad, Dr. Mohd. Yasir Zubair and Dr. Sana Nawab, along with Senior Residents Dr. Danish Kamal and Dr.Shaista Parveen, postgraduate residents and departmental staff.
