A video showing a young man assaulting an elderly person is rapidly going viral on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The video is being claimed to be from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
Several users have alleged that the son assaulted his father because the latter had allegedly engaged in “inappropriate behavior” with his daughter-in-law. Some posts have also linked the incident to a particular religious community, giving it a communal angle.
On X (formerly Twitter), verified user Mayank Upadhyay shared the viral video and used offensive language while targeting a particular community.
Meanwhile, another verified user, Ranjana Singh, shared the video and wrote:
“Look, the old man is being beaten. He must have done something ‘good’ to deserve it… after all, he has kept a ‘Noor’ (beard)…”
Fact Check
To verify the claim associated with the viral video, Times Headline extracted keyframes from the footage and conducted a reverse image search.
During the investigation, we found a post shared by news portal UP Tak on X on June 9, 2026. While sharing the video, the outlet reported:
“A disturbing video from Saharanpur has gone viral. CCTV footage shows a son slapping, punching, and grabbing his elderly father by the collar. After the video surfaced, police detained the accused. Preliminary investigation suggests that the incident stemmed from a property dispute.”
Further investigation led us to a report published by NDTV India on June 9, 2026. According to the report, the incident took place in Mankamau village under the jurisdiction of Kutubsher police station in Saharanpur district.
The report stated that an argument between elderly resident Haji Tahseen and his son, Gulfishan, over a domestic dispute escalated into violence. The entire incident was captured on CCTV footage. The viral video shows the son physically assaulting his father, slapping him, and allegedly attempting to choke him.
Following the circulation of the video, the police took immediate cognizance of the matter and detained the accused son.
Saharanpur Police also issued a statement regarding the incident, saying: “In this case, Kutubsher Police arrested the accused and produced him before the competent court.”
Additionally, during a conversation with Inspector Santosh Singh of Kutubsher Police Station, Times Headline was informed that the accused youth was mentally distressed. He further stated that the father and son have now reached a settlement. However, police have initiated legal action against the youth for breach of peace.
Conclusion
The investigation clearly shows that the claims being made alongside the viral video are misleading.
The incident is unrelated to any alleged “inappropriate behavior” or communal angle. In reality, it was a case of a domestic and property-related dispute between a father and son in Saharanpur.
Therefore, the video is being circulated on social media with false context and misleading communal claims.
