Hyderabad, Telangana: Timor-Leste Ambassador H.E. Karlito Nunes participated in a panel discussion in Hyderabad on “The Future of Processing Industries in Asia”, focusing on the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI), automation and smart manufacturing in sectors such as food processing and pharmaceuticals.
The panel discussion brought together Ambassadors and High Commissioners from Bangladesh, Tajikistan, Timor-Leste, Fiji, Russia, Sri Lanka and Kyrgyzstan, along with diplomats, industry leaders and business delegates from across India.
Addressing a question on how AI and automation can improve productivity, quality and cost efficiency in Asia’s processing industries, Ambassador Nunes said these technologies are becoming essential for enhancing industrial competitiveness. He highlighted the potential of AI to optimise production planning, strengthen quality control through real-time monitoring and enable predictive maintenance, helping industries reduce downtime and operational costs.
Highlighting Timor-Leste’s potential as a developing economy and a United Nations Least Developed Country, Ambassador Nunes said the country offers opportunities for investment, industrialisation and technology transfer. He noted that AI and digital technologies could be introduced gradually through smart processing systems, digital supply chain management, precision agriculture and traceability platforms.
On sectors offering opportunities for Indian companies, Ambassador Nunes highlighted food production and processing, manufacturing and pharmaceuticals. He said Timor-Leste is looking for reliable partnerships in food processing and pharmaceutical manufacturing, where Indian companies have strong technological expertise and global recognition.
