The historic Russian town of Kashin, located around 150 kilometres from Tver, has been included in the country’s national tourist route, the Golden Ring of Russia, in 2026.
Kashin is unofficially known as the “Town of the Russian Heart” because the Kashinka River curves around the town in a shape resembling a heart.
The town has a long and rich history. Kashin was first mentioned in the Nikon Chronicle in 1238, in connection with the Mongol invasion. In 1319, it became the centre of an independent appanage principality.
Over the centuries, Kashin developed into an important centre of trade and crafts. The town also became known for its mineral springs. In 1884, a balneological resort was opened there, further establishing Kashin as a destination for health and leisure tourism.
With its historic heritage, unique landscape and mineral springs, Kashin’s inclusion in the Golden Ring of Russia in 2026 is expected to further highlight the town as an important cultural and tourist destination.
