ALIGARH, September 1: The Department of Social Work, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in collaboration with GreenSole Foundation, Navi Mumbai, organised a week-long kit distribution drive under the theme “Steps Towards Sustainable Future” as part of the Independence Day and National Social Work Week celebrations
The initiative covered seven government schools in AMU-adopted villages and other areas of Aligarh district and aimed to support students’ education, encourage regular school attendance and promote environmental sustainability. More than 1,600 students received kits comprising a bag, mat and pair of slippers, all made from recycled materials.
The participating schools also organised educational and awareness activities during the drive. Mr. Laxmikant Pandey, Assistant Director, Basic Education; Dr. Anil Raghav, State Resource Group; Syed Aquil Hussain, Consultant, Unicommerce; Mr. Mohd. Asad, Director, Revolution Academy; and Nizakat Ali, SMC President, along with other guests, interacted with the students and participated in the programmes.

Faculty of Social Sciences and Chairperson, Department of Social Work, along with Dr. Mohammad Tahir, Dr. Qurratul Aein Ali, Dr. Mohd Arif Khan, Dr. Shyna Saif, Dr. Andleeb, Dr. Mohd Uzair and Dr. Sameera Khanam, supported the initiative. MSW final-year students volunteered in the distribution activities, while Mr. Mohd Raza, Research Scholar, coordinated the drive.
The programme received support from Mr. Shriyans Bhandari, Mr. Ramesh Dhami and the GreenSole Foundation team, as well as the sponsors and principals of the participating schools
The participating schools and their principals were Mrs. Farha Masood (Primary School, Dairy Farm, Mirzapur); Mrs. Farhat Anjum (Upper Primary School, Dairy Farm, Mirzapur); Mrs. Rafia Nikhat (Primary School, Raza Nagar); Mrs. Rajakumari (Upper Primary School, Raza Nagar); Mr. Khaleeq Ahmad (Balak Primary School No. 2, Upper Fort); Mrs. Naziya Ishaque (Balak Primary School No. 19, Hamdard Nagar D); and Mrs. Farnaz Faiyaz (Balak Primary School No. 46, Hamdard Nagar A).
