ALIGARH, September 6: Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh (RMPS) AMU City School, Aligarh Muslim University, organised a Teachers’ Day celebration to felicitate Prof. Vibha Sharma, Department of English, AMU, and Member Incharge, Public Relations Office, for being conferred the “National Award to Teachers for Higher Educational Institutions and Polytechnics-2025”. The felicitation came as Prof. Sharma completed a year since receiving the prestigious national honour on Teachers’ Day last year, adding a special significance to this year’s celebration.
The programme was presided over by Prof. M. Jahangeer Warsi, Chairman, Department of Linguistics, AMU. Urdu poet Syed Musharraf Hussain Mahzar and engineer by profession Er. Rahat Sultan Israili were the Guests of Honour. Both are alumni of RMPS AMU City School.
Addressing teachers and students, Prof. Sharma said school teachers play a vital role in students’ overall development and work with dedication towards their education, character building and future despite limited resources. She said the National Teachers Award was not her individual award but a recognition of the entire teaching fraternity of AMU.
She praised RMPS AMU City School for its academic, cultural and infrastructural initiatives and urged students to make effective use of technology. “AI can never replace a teacher. Teacher is your guide and AI is your slave,” she said.
Syed Musharraf Hussain Mahzar recalled his association with the institution and said that the values and guidance imparted by teachers leave a lasting impression on students. He congratulated Prof. Sharma on receiving the prestigious national honour. He urged the students to respect their teachers, work hard and remain committed to learning and good character.
On this occasion, Er. Rahat Sultan Israili, while addressing the students, said that the hard work they do today with dedication would shape a better future tomorrow. He urged the students to work hard, progress, and bring glory to the school and the country.
In his presidential remarks, Prof. M. Jahangeer Warsi emphasised that trust, respect and dialogue between teachers and students form the foundation of good education. He said teachers not only impart knowledge but also help shape students’ personalities, and congratulated Prof. Sharma on bringing recognition to AMU.
Principal Dr. Mohammad Faiyazuddin welcomed the guests and highlighted the significance of Teachers’ Day and the contribution of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He urged students to always respect their teachers, who guide them from darkness to light.
The academic contribution of Mr. A. M. Ibrahim Ansari, Senior PGT, was also recognised. A Science textbook published by the State Institute of Educational Research and Training (SIERT), Rajasthan, containing his contribution as a Physics Expert, was presented on the occasion. The school noted that this is the second instance in AMU’s history of an AMU teacher’s name appearing in an NCERT/SCERT textbook, following Prof. Izhar Hussain’s name in NCERT Mathematics textbooks in the late 1970s. Mr. Ansari has also been associated with IB Cardiff as Diploma Examiner and Team Leader since 2016.
Students of RMPS AMU City School presented an impressive performance of patriotic songs.
The programme was conducted by Syed Ateequeur Raheem, while Vice Principal Dr. Shahid Jaleel proposed the vote of thanks.
