As he concludes his tenure in India, Finland’s Ambassador Kimmo Lähdevirta leaves behind a legacy marked by significant growth and transformation in bilateral relations between the two nations.
During his time in office, Ambassador Lähdevirta played a pivotal role in strengthening Finland-India ties, steering the partnership toward a more dynamic and future-focused direction. A key highlight of his tenure was the successful implementation of the “DESI +M” framework, which emphasized collaboration in Digitalisation, Education, Sustainability, Innovation, and Mobility.
Under his leadership, the relationship expanded beyond traditional diplomacy to include high-level visits, business roadshows, and groundwork initiatives such as preparations for the World Circular Economy Forum 2026. These efforts contributed to elevating the bilateral relationship to a Strategic Partnership.
Reflecting on his time in India, Ambassador Lähdevirta described the experience as deeply enriching. He noted that each day in the country brought new energy and opportunities, highlighting the synergy between Finnish resilience and India’s dynamic growth, particularly in business collaborations.
He also emphasized the human dimension of diplomacy, stating that beyond formal agreements, the connections built among students, researchers, companies, and communities would remain the most enduring outcome of his tenure.
