Jamia Millia Islamia Releases Second Volume of CDOE’s Annual Magazine “Shahr-e-Aarzoo”

The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), marked a significant academic and literary milestone with the formal release of the second annual volume of Shahr-e-Aarzoo, its trilingual magazine, at a ceremony held at the Yasser Arafat Hall, Administrative Block, Jamia Millia Islamia.

The magazine was officially released by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Mazhar Asif, who lauded the initiative as a thoughtful and intellectually engaging endeavour and appreciated the Centre’s efforts in promoting academic and creative expression among learners of distance and online programmes.

The event was also graced by the Registrar, Prof. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, who highlighted the importance of such platforms in fostering intellectual engagement and holistic development, particularly among distance and online learners.

Prof. Moshahid Alam Rizvi, Dean, CDOE, dedicated the magazine to the CDOE learners and highlighted the magazine’s journey, noting that it has evolved into a vibrant platform fostering creativity, critical thinking and inclusive academic expression for distance and online learners. He also congratulated all the staff members who have worked day and night to see the outcome of their efforts.

The ceremony was attended by all the members of the Board of Management (BOM), CDOE, including Prof. Hemant B. Kaushik (IIT Guwahati), Prof. Nafees Ahmad Ansari (AMU), and Prof. Arvind Kumar Jha (IGNOU), along with Prof. Iqtidar Mohd. Khan, Prof. Vijaylakshmi Brara, and Prof. Kavita Chauhan from Jamia Millia Islamia, in addition to the office-bearers of the Centre for Distance and Online Education.

Shahr-e-Aarzoo (2025-26) features a rich collection of writings in Hindi, English and Urdu, encompassing academic articles, literary compositions and socially relevant themes. The magazine includes contributions from students, scholars and faculty members, offering insights into contemporary issues and creative expression. The trilingual format reflects the inclusive academic ethos of the university and promotes linguistic and cultural engagement.

The volume comprises 65 writing pieces across the three languages, reflecting the intellectual and creative participation of learners associated with distance and online education programmes. It also features an exclusive and inspiring interview with CDOE alumna Ms Sophia Siddiqui, who accomplished the 253rd rank in the UPSC examination.

The release of Shahr-e-Aarzoo, Volume 2, reinforces Jamia Millia Islamia’s commitment to the services of remotely located learners across the country through the Centre for Distance and Online Education, in its ongoing voyage of excellence and creativity.
