Afzal, Mohammad Shahrukh, Mohammad Aneesh, Mohammad Aamir, and Mohammad Waseem were not part of any government rescue team that night. They were neither firefighters nor police personnel. They were ordinary residents of the area who saw people struggling for their lives and rushed to help without caring for their own safety.

According to eyewitnesses, when people trapped inside the hotel were crying out for help, these youths immediately took charge. They broke the hotel windows to create escape routes for those trapped inside. Many people were stranded on the upper floors and had no option but to jump down. In such a situation, these youths spread mattresses on the ground so that those jumping would suffer as little injury as possible.
