AMU Observes World Environment Day Through Plantation Drives Across Campus

ALIGARH, Various departments and institutions of Aligarh Muslim University observed World Environment Day 2026 through plantation drives and awareness activities aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, ecological responsibility and the University’s Green Campus initiative.

As part of the nationwide “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, the Faculty of Law organised a plantation drive under the leadership of Dean, Faculty of Law, Prof. Shakeel Ahmad. Around 10 saplings were planted within the faculty premises to enhance green cover and promote environmental awareness. Faculty members including Prof. Hashmat Ali Khan, Prof. Rahmatullah, Prof. Ali Nawaz Zaidi, Prof. Zafar Ahmad Khan, Dr. Rabab Khan, Dr.Mohib Anwar, Dr. Gaurav, Dr. S. M. Yawar, Dr. Shahab Shabbir and Dr. Saddam Husain participated in the programme. The initiative highlighted the importance of biodiversity conservation, sustainable development and collective responsibility towards environmental protection.

The Department of Physiology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, also participated in the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” Campaign 2026–27 under the leadership of Prof. Gul Ar Navi Khan, Chairperson of the Department. Faculty members, resident doctors, non-teaching staff and other departmental personnel took part in the plantation activity. Prof. Khan appreciated the enthusiastic participation of all members and reiterated the Department’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability. He noted that such initiatives help inculcate environmental responsibility among students and young medical professionals while strengthening green practices on the campus.

At AMU Girls’ School, a tree plantation programme was organised under the guidance of Acting Principal Mrs. Alka Agrawal. Teachers, non-teaching staff and students planted saplings across the campus and pledged to contribute towards environmental conservation. Addressing the students, Mrs. Agrawal emphasised the importance of protecting natural resources and maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

The programmes reflected AMU’s continuing commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development through active community participation and plantation initiatives.
