A sensational claim is widely circulating on social media alleging that a Hindu woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi district beheaded six Muslim men who had allegedly threatened her with rape and forced religious conversion. The viral posts further claim that she offered their severed heads at a Kali temple in Babatpur.

The Claim

A “Breaking News” graphic being shared across social media carries the following claim:

BREAKING NEWS: A Hindu girl allegedly beheaded six Muslim youths who had threatened her with rape and religious conversion, and offered their severed heads at the Kali Mata Temple in Babatpur, Varanasi. Now the lioness has entered the battlefield.

Sharing the viral graphic on X (formerly Twitter), a user named Anuj Shukla wrote:

Usually I’m a very tough guy, but this really melted my heart.

The same graphic was also shared on Instagram by the user official_ak_raj_35, who wrote:

A Dalit woman is on the run after allegedly beheading six Muslim men. It is also claimed that these men had threatened her with rape and religious conversion. The incident is reportedly said to have taken place in Hemantpur village of Babatpur, Varanasi. The report further claims that the woman’s family had repeatedly approached the police with complaints, but the police neither provided her protection nor took any action against the Muslim men.”

Several other social media users have also circulated the same claim, alleging that the incident occurred in the Babatpur area of Varanasi.

Fact Check

Times Headline investigated the viral claim and found it to be false.

As part of our verification, we searched for credible reports regarding the alleged incident. However, no trustworthy media organization has reported any such case. Had an incident involving the murder of six people under such extraordinary circumstances actually taken place in Varanasi, it would have received extensive coverage from local as well as national news outlets.

Our investigation also revealed that the same claim had gone viral in 2023. At that time, the Varanasi Police had officially denied the claim through the verified X account of the DCP Gomti Zone.

In its statement issued on June 18, 2023, the police clarified that the viral post claiming a Dalit Hindu woman had beheaded six Muslim men in Babatpur was completely false. The statement further said that no such incident had taken place in Babatpur outpost under Phulpur Police Station and urged people not to share misleading and fabricated information. The police also warned that legal action could be taken against those spreading fake news on social media.

To verify whether any such incident had occurred recently, Times Headline contacted Rajeev Kumar Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Phulpur Police Station.

The SHO categorically rejected the viral claim and confirmed that no such incident had taken place in the Babatpur area under his jurisdiction. He further clarified that there is no village named Hemantpur in the police station limits. He also stated that there is no established Kali temple in the area matching the description mentioned in the viral posts.

Additionally, he pointed out that while some versions of the viral posts mention “Babanpur” and others mention “Babatpur,” no such incident has occurred in either location.

Conclusion

The investigation by Times Headline found that the viral claim is entirely false.

There is no evidence to support the claim that a Hindu woman in Varanasi beheaded six Muslim men over alleged rape and religious conversion threats or offered their severed heads at a Kali temple. The claim has previously been debunked by Varanasi Police, and local police have once again confirmed that no such incident has taken place.
