ALIGARH: The Department of Community Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, observed World Population Day 2026 by organizing a “Devil’s Advocate” Debate Competition under the guidance of Prof. Uzma Eram, Chairperson, Department of Community Medicine.
The programme began with a PowerPoint presentation by Dr.Yuvrajsinh Raj (Junior Resident-2), who highlighted the evolution of World Population Day, India’s demographic transition and demographic dividend, youth aspirations, sexual and reproductive health, government initiatives, and the role of Community Medicine in empowering young people for sustainable development.

Anchored by Dr. Rohan Kaushik (Junior Resident-1), with the debate conducted by Aryan Pratap Singh (2023 Batch) and Anika Rumman Rahi (2024 Batch), the competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from undergraduate medical students, encouraging evidence-based discussion and critical thinking on contemporary population issues.
The competition was judged by Dr.Nema Usman, Department of Anatomy, and Dr. Shah Mohammad Abbas Waseem, Professor, Department of Physiology. Khadija Fatima (2023 Batch) and Arham Ahmed (2024 Batch) won the Overall First Prize, while Varisha (2024 Batch) and Smriti Raman Singh (2024 Batch) secured the Second Prize. Misbah Anam (2023 Batch) was adjudged Best Devil, and Ashar (2023 Batch) received the Best Angel award.
