University Polytechnic, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), successfully organised “DikshaAgaz 2026”, the Orientation Programme for newly admitted students of Diploma in Engineering (Day and Self-Financed Courses), on July 31, 2026. The programme commenced at 10:30 a.m. in the presence of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mazhar Asif, esteemed Registrar Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Controller of Exams, Prof Ahteshamul Haque, DSW Prof. Neelofer Afzal, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Tanuja, Dean Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Prof. Mohammad Sharif, Heads, faculty members, staff, newly admitted students, and their parents.
The programme began with the recitation of the holy verses from the Holy Quran by Dr. Zeeshan Abbasi, Assistant Professor, Electronics Engineering Section. This was followed by the felicitation of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor and other dignitaries on the dais by Dr. M. A. Khan, Principal, University Polytechnic. A video presentation of the Jamia Tarana was then screened, showcasing the rich heritage and values of Jamia Millia Islamia.
Welcoming the gathering, Dr. M. A. Khan introduced the newly admitted students and their parents to the academic environment of University Polytechnic. He highlighted the various skill development initiatives, training programmes, industry interactions, and co-curricular activities conducted by the institution in addition to the regular academic curriculum to enhance students’ employability and overall personality development.
In his motivational speech, the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mazhar Asif, graciously welcomed the newly admitted students into the Jamia family. He encouraged them to make the most of their time at the University, pursue academic excellence, honor the values and traditions of the institution, and avoid engaging in any mischievous or inappropriate behaviors.
Prof. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, the Registrar of Jamia Millia Islamia, urged students to maintain discipline and concentration as they adjust to university and hostel life. He encouraged them to confront challenges with resolve and to fully utilize the opportunities present on campus.
Addressing the gathering, the Prof. Mohammad Sharif, Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology spoke about the bright career prospects available to diploma holders and emphasized the more than 100-year legacy of Jamia Millia Islamia in imparting quality education and producing competent professionals.
Prof. Tanuja, Dean, Academic Affairs, elaborated on the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, highlighting its student-centric approach, academic flexibility, and the opportunities available through SWAYAM courses for enhancing learning and skill development.
The Dean of Students’ Welfare (DSW) informed the students about the numerous facilities available beyond academics, including the Drama Club, Music Club, Sports, Literary and Cultural Clubs, and various scholarship schemes offered by the University.
The programme concluded with the singing of the National Anthem by the gathering.
