Aligarh: Reinforcing its commitment to academic excellence and internationalisation, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has entered into a significant academic partnership with the VSB–Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Republic, by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening collaboration in higher education, research, innovation and technological advancement.
The MoU was signed at the Office of the Vice-Chancellor on August 3, marking another milestone in AMU’s sustained efforts to expand its global academic footprint and provide wider international opportunities to its students and faculty.
The agreement was signed on behalf of AMU by the Registrar Prof. Aasim Zafar in the presence of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Naima Khatoon, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mohd.Mohsin Khan, Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology,Prof. Nesar Ahmad, Principal, Zakir Husain College of Engineering & Technology (ZHCET), Prof. Mohammad Muzammil, and Director, Directorate of Research and Development, Prof. Omar Farooq.
The visiting delegation from the VSB–Technical University of Ostrava comprisedProf. Ing. Kamila Janovská, Dean, Faculty of Materials Science and Technology; Prof. KateřinaSkotnicová, Vice-Dean for Studies; Prof. Ing. VlastimilMatějka, Professor, Faculty of Materials Science and Technology; and Dr. K. Praveenkumar, Research Scientist. Their visit marked the beginning of what both institutions described as a long-term strategic partnership built on shared academic values and research aspirations.
The five-year agreement provides a comprehensive framework for cooperation in student and faculty exchange programmes, joint research initiatives, academic visits, internships, collaborative publications, knowledge sharing and other scholarly activities. The collaboration is expected to promote interdisciplinary research and facilitate the exchange of advanced scientific expertise, while creating opportunities for students and researchers to work in an international academic environment.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoondescribed the MoU as an important step in AMU’s continuing journey towards greater global engagement. She said the collaboration would open new avenues for research, innovation and academic excellence by bringing together the intellectual strengths of both institutions. She observed that meaningful international partnerships enable universities to exchange knowledge, leverage complementary expertise and jointly address emerging scientific and technological challenges with global relevance.
Welcoming the collaboration, the Principal of ZHCET, Prof. Mohammad Muzammil, said the partnership would provide students and faculty with valuable exposure to internationally recognised research ecosystems and advanced technological practices. He expressed confidence that collaborative research, faculty interactions and student exchanges would foster innovation, encourage interdisciplinary learning and contribute to developing solutions for contemporary societal challenges. Such collaborations, he added, ultimately enhance the quality of education while serving the broader goal of improving the quality of life.
Members of the Czech delegation praised AMU’s distinguished academic legacy and expressed enthusiasm for developing sustained institutional ties. They noted that the agreement would facilitate meaningful academic exchanges, collaborative research and long-term cooperation between scholars, researchers and students of both universities.
The latest collaboration reflects AMU’s growing emphasis on international academic outreach and its vision of integrating global best practices into teaching, research and innovation. Over the past few years, the University has consistently strengthened its international engagements through academic partnerships, collaborative research initiatives and faculty and student exchange programmes, reinforcing its position as one of India’s leading centres of higher learning.
The ceremony concluded with the exchange of mementoes and a vote of thanks, symbolising the beginning of a partnership dedicated to advancing knowledge, promoting innovation and academic excellence for the benefit of society.
