“Sorry guys. It was a learning experience for me. I had not faced her before. She was faster.”
This was ace woman boxer, Nikhat Zareeen, after losing to China’s Wu Yu in the 50 kg boxing event in the Paris Olympics. She was unseeded in the Olympics, but she is a two-time world champion. Wu Yu is top-seeded in the Games, and current Asian Games Champion.
“I had worked hard, prepared myself physically and mentally for this Olympics. I will come back strong,” Nikhat said.
No regrets for her. She is ready for the next fight in the ring.
Nikhat, and hundreds of young girls and women in India, are the new, brilliant stars in the horizon. They are ambitious, talented, hard working, resilient — and they are not afraid to break barriers. They have already rejected the conformist and orthodox past. They don’t carry baggages or prejudice.
They are outside the vicious realm of hate politics or social and cultural polarizations. They are not afraid of feelings of pure joy and sharing.
They cannot be confined within the walls of their homes — or any other man-made wall. They are, in sports, as in any other field, setting new landmarks of excellence, and, they are, both, role models and inspirational for the entire country.
At Times Headline (www.timesheadline.in), we are carrying this model of inspiration. We are looking for new windows of enlightenment. New doors of perception.
We will be open-ended and non-dogmatic. We will appreciate in-depth content. Our multi-media organisation will search for happy stories, success stories, stories of hope and endurance.
Certainly, we will not run away from the ‘darkness at noon’ — given the times we live in. We shall explore the twilight zones with as much sensitivity and earnestness.
In this independent, public interest venture, we firmly believe in the values and vision enshrined in the Indian Constitution. We look forward to criticism from readers, to the voices of creative dissent, and the heady joy of discovering and resurrecting new paradigms of critical thinking and optimism in journalism.
We call upon all our readers, strangers and friends, to join us in this endeavour.
