‘ However, Homoeopathy is much more than that.

It is a complete system of medicine in which all the alterations in health, and so-called diseases, can be effectively treated

Homoeopathy was discovered by Dr Samuel Hahnemann in Germany. He laid down its principle as ‘Similia similibus curentur’ — ‘Law of Similars’. It means that the effective drug must produce symptoms in healthy people, that are similar to the disease they will be expected to treat.

Homoeopathic medicines are made from natural resources like plants, animals and minerals.
Medicines given are in such minute doses that they are just sufficient to stimulate the body’s own healing power.

Indeed, Homoeopathy is one of the most advanced methods of treatment. In this discipline, we treat patients not only on the physical plane, but also on the mental and emotional plane, to a great extent.

With time, it has gained popularity among people because of its milder mode of treatment. Over the years, it has gained many renowned proponents like the British royal family, Rabindranath Tagore, Mother Teresa, eminent physician and professor of Johns Hopkins University, Sir William Osler, British footballer, David Beckham, and world champion athlete, Olympian gold medalist, Usain Bolt.

In the contemporary era, across India and the world, a great number of students are adopting it as a professional and academic career. However, there are still many doubts among students about this medical discipline. Indeed, you can opt for it as a career if you want to help people cure their illness by natural means.

Undoubtedly, it is is a rewarding, fulfilling and flexible career choice. You can treat all forms of health issues with it, even when modern medicine becomes limited, and is not able to become effective. The Homeopath’s mission is to “find the person who is running the show within“.

In doing so, psychology, emotions, lifestyle, habits, interests, and living environment, will all be taken into consideration.

To be a Homoeopath, you need an all-consuming interest in people, and a desire to help others. You must have an interest in personal and universal health, individual and social well-being, and disease, and have the innate talent for analytical thinking, as well as the ability to use your intuition to a great extent. You must be able to foster an open and curious mind.

Additionally, you must possess working knowledge of medicine and psychology, good listening qualities and communication skills, an accurate record-keeping skill, an ability to build trust and rapport with patients, an ability to remain calm under pressure, and business skills to run your own practice.

The basic qualification to be a Homoeopath in India is Bachelor in Homeopathy and Surgery, (BHMS). It is a five-and-half-year course, with compulsory internship of one year.  The eligibility for BHMS is 12th, with biology.

As a Homoeopath, you can work as a medical officer in private and government hospitals, and as a private practitioner. After post-graduation, you can work as a lecturer in homeopathy colleges, or work in higher research programmes.

Homoeopathy is a financially rewarding field as well. It’s economical to establish your own clinic set-up.

Hence, if you are someone who enjoys understanding human behaviour and their conflicts, is interested in gaining knowledge about natural resources, and believes in the healing power of
the body, homeopathy is for you.

Just go for it!
