Jamia’s MMTTC Launches AI-Focused Refresher Course

New Delhi, August 6, 2025 – The Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC) in Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) launched a two-week multidisciplinary refresher course “Artificial Intelligence: AI as Catalyst for Academic Synergy” today. The hybrid mode course between 6 to 22 August 2025 has drawn 91 participants from 12 states and a range of higher educational institutions across India.

The first session started with a warm welcome and introduction of the three eminent course coordinators — Prof. Sarfaraz Masood (Department of Computer Engineering), Prof. Mansaf Alam, and Dr. Khalid Raza (Department of Computer Science, JMI) — by Prof. Kulwinder Kaur, Honorary Director, MMTTC, and Dr. Shahla Tarannum, MMTTC.

As Guest of Honour, Prof. Tanvir Ahmad, Additional Director, FTK-CIT, JMI, stressed the need to adopt AI as a change-making force instead of seeing it with suspicion. He provided real-life examples of AI uses in engineering, healthcare, finance, education, and management, pointing towards its central role in the progress of society.

Prof. Zahid Raza, Dean, School of Computer Systems Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, delivered the keynote address. His presentation gave the participants an insightful background on AI, including its potential advantages, potential risks, and ethical issues. He also presented solutions to counter the threats of AI while optimizing its academic and social gains.

The session ended with the vote of thanks given by Dr. Khalid Raza, which was followed by a group photo to herald the beginning of this intellectually stimulating programme.
