AMU Observes Rashtriya Ekta Diwas and Fit India Activities to Mark Sardar Patel’s 150th Birth Anniversary

ALIGARH, October 31: Aligarh Muslim University observed Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) with patriotic zeal and active participation across departments, centres, offices and halls of residence to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India. The day featured pledge ceremonies, fitness runs and cleanliness campaigns in line with the national initiatives Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat and Fit India Mission.

At the Faculty of Arts, the National Unity Day message was shared by Prof. T. N. Satheesan, Dean, reminding the university community of Patel’s unparalleled role in unifying India. The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences held a pledge ceremony led by Prof. R. U. Khan, Dean, with chairpersons, faculty members, staff and students participating enthusiastically.

The Department of Business Administration observed Rashtriya Ekta Diwas under the supervision of Prof. Asif Khan, Dean and Chairman, with faculty, staff and students taking the pledge outside the Seminar Hall. The Department of Linguistics, under the chairmanship of Mr Masood Ali Beg, conducted an oath-taking ceremony in the ICT Lab. The Department of Agricultural Microbiology organised a pledge ceremony led by Prof. Iqbal Ahmad, Chairman, with participation from faculty, research scholars and postgraduate students. The Department of Commerce organised the Fit India Freedom Run 2025 coordinated by Dr. Naghma Azhar and Prof. Irfan Ahmad in the presence of Prof. Asif Khan, Dean and Chairman. The Department of Sanskrit also observed the occasion, with Chairperson Prof. Sarika Varshney addressing participants and administering the pledge.

The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) held an oath-taking ceremony led by Dr. Wajid R. Khan. The Central Automobile Workshop (CAW) and Transport Office observed the pledge ceremony under the supervision of Mr. Fozailuddin Tarique, Superintendent.

Halls of residence across the campus marked the day with enthusiastic participation. At Ziauddin Hall, Provost Dr. Iftekhar Ahmad Ansari, wardens, staff and residents took the pledge and reiterated the ideals of national integration. Begum Sultan Jahan Hall observed the occasion under the leadership of Provost Prof. Saira Mehnaz. Sir Syed Hall (South) marked the day with a Fit India Swachhta Freedom Run with participation from the Provost, wardens, staff and students. Sarojini Naidu Hall held a rally, cleanliness drive and fitness run under the guidance of Provost Prof. Orus Ilyas and wardens. The Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was also commemorated at V. M. Hall, where Dr. Faizan Ahmad, Acting Provost, administered the Rashtriya Ekta Pledge to all employees.

At AMU Centre, Malappuram, the National Service Scheme (NSS), Health & Hygiene Committee and Sports & Fitness Committee jointly conducted the Run for Unity (Fit India Freedom Run 2025). The programme was led by Director Prof. M. Shahul Hameed, with welcome remarks by Dr. Raghul V. Rajan, oath administered by Dr. Najmudheen T., and a vote of thanks by Dr. Muhammed Haris C. At the Public Relations Office, the Member Incharge Prof Vibha Sharma administered the Unity pledge to the staff members and urged all to work for strengthening the unity and integrity of the country.

Across the University, faculty members, staff and students pledged to strengthen unity, promote fitness, uphold cleanliness and contribute to nation-building in the spirit of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s vision for a strong and united India.
