AMU Organizes Workshop on Analytics for Online Businesses

ALIGARH, November 17: The Department of Business Administration, Aligarh Muslim University, organized a workshop on “Analytics for Online Businesses”, focusing on the expanding role of data analytics in e-commerce. The event commenced with a welcome address, followed by opening remarks from Prof. Salma Ahmed, Chairperson of the department, who stressed the importance of equipping future managers with analytical competencies to support data-driven business decision-making.

Prof. Jamal Ahmed Farooqi, Faculty Advisor, Co-Curricular Committee, underlined the need to bridge academic learning with contemporary industry practices.

The first session was conducted by Mr. Syed Atif Umar, Chief Analytics Officer at Meesho, who spoke on “Online Business Models: The Data Behind a Purchase.” He explained how e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, Flipkart, and Nykaa employ data to enhance personalization, optimize pricing strategies, and improve customer retention. Participants were introduced to the Analytics Value Chain and key performance indicators, including user engagement and conversion rates.

In the second session, Dr.Lamay Bin Sabir delivered a talk on “Building a GPT for Sentiment Analysis,” demonstrating how Natural Language Processing supports businesses in understanding customer opinions and strengthening decision-making. Using a Netflix case study, he explained techniques such as tokenization and lemmatization, illustrating how AI and text analytics contribute to enhancing customer experience and shaping brand perception.
